Singapore Tech.Pass to Launch in January 2021
Singapore will soon launch the Singapore Tech.Pass in January 2021 next year. It is a new work pass that targets foreigners working as tech industry experts.
Developing Singapore’s Tech Ecosystem
The aim of the pass is to encourage more tech industry experts to relocate to Singapore. This is a bid to help develop the country’s tech ecosystem. 500 slots will be allocated for the pass. This will be available for application once it launches.
The pass aims to attract leaders, founders, and other tech experts who have the skills, expertise, and experience needed by Singapore. These individuals can be either from fast-growing or established tech companies.
The Benefits of Singapore Tech.Pass
Holders of the Tech.Pass will have the flexibility to take part in activities that include operating or starting a business in Singapore. They can also be an employee, investor, director or consultant of any Singapore-based company that needs them.
Additionally, Tech pass holders can also be a mentor to start-up companies. If they want to, they can give lectures at local universities too.
The Tech.Pass will be valid for two years. After that, it can be renewed once, if you meet all the renewal criteria. If all the renewal criteria are met, the Tech pass can be renewed for a subsequent two year period.
With this programme, locals in Singapore will have the chance to work in globally competitive teams too. They will get the chance to learn from some of the top talents across the world.
The Tech Pass programme is an extension of the Tech@SG programme. The latter was launched last year in 2019. Both of the programmes focus on facilitating the growth of tech companies. It also focuses on establishing more local talent to benefit Singapore’s local tech ecosystem.
Who is Eligible for the Tech Pass?
To be eligible for the Singapore Tech Pass, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have a fixed monthly income in the last year of at least S$20,000.
- Have a minimum of five years of cumulative work experience. This experience must be in a leading role with a tech company. The company must have a market cap or valuation of a minimum of US$500 million. Alternatively, minimum funding of US$30 million is also acceptable.
- Have a minimum of five years’ work experience. This experience must be in a leading role in the development of a tech product. This product must have a minimum of 100,000 actively monthly users or US$100 million in revenue.
