What to Do Before the Work Pass Is Cancelled

Before cancelling your work pass, you need to get Singapore’s Inland Revenue Authority’s (IRAS) tax approval. All pending employment liabilities, such as wage payment, should be resolved if you are an employer.

You must make sure your employee has a current passport as an employer. You also need to ensure that none of your employees is subject to Quarantine Orders (QO) or Stay-Home Notices (SHN).

How Do I Cancel A Work Pass?

To cancel the Work Permit, go to WP Online and log in. Print your acknowledgement letter and the Special Pass. The Special Pass enables the worker to stay in Singapore lawfully before departing. Give the worker the acknowledgement letter and the Special Pass.

When departing Singapore, the worker must produce the Special Pass to the immigration officer. You can obtain a temporary extension of the Work Permit if you only require the worker for a short time after the Work Permit expires.

If your worker or employee has already left Singapore, to cancel the Work Permit, go to WP Online and log in. Select the “Worker has already departed Singapore” option as the reason for cancellation. After MOM verifies that the worker has departed Singapore, the security bond will be released within two weeks.

After the Work Permit has been successfully cancelled, the employee is unable to work while waiting to depart Singapore.

You must make sure that your tax obligations are taken care of. This is usually done by your employer, who will withhold a portion of your income for IRAS tax clearing. Your salary will be issued only if IRAS produces a Tax Clearance Certificate, showing that all of your tax responsibilities have been met.

The processing time is 21 days, and IRAS may issue a stop order certificate if there are outstanding tax liabilities against you.
