Singapore’s Hotel Industry Digital Plan
The Hotel Industry Digital Plan (IDP) was launched as part of ongoing efforts by the government to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) adopt more digital technologies and encourage digital transformation.
Hotel Industry IDP Digital Roadmap
All IDPs contain a Digital Roadmap which covers three important stages to help guide SMEs on utilizing digital solutions and transforming themselves digitally. For the Hotel Industry, the three stages will cover a range of departments essential for day-to-day functions such as housekeeping, F&B, engineering, finance, human resources, and more.
Stage 1: Getting the Digital Economy Ready
The first stage for the Hotels Industry is to enhance digital capabilities by utilizing digital solutions to optimise operations and improve productivity.
Examples of digital solutions planned are:
- RFID uniform and linen management
- Cloud-based property management system
- Electronic signals for room privacy and cleaning
- Cleaning robots for public floors
Stage 2: Growing in the Digital Economy
The second stage allows hotels to enhance the guest experience by enabling data-driven insights and digitally integrate across systems within and beyond the hotel’s digital ecosystem.
Digital solutions include:
- Housekeeping delivery robots
- Integrated smart rooms
- Crowd management
- Online reservation and ordering
Stage 3: Leaping Ahead
The third stage explores advanced solutions that involve higher levels of automation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Examples include:
- Chatbots
- Compendium
- Self check-in/out
- Revenue management system
Digital Roadmap for Skills and Training
As the Hotel Industry expands and progresses, the digital skills required to follow suit.
Job roles will need to be up-skilled to keep up with digitalisation and this can be done by providing the relevant training to employees.
IDPs outline two types of courses for basic and advanced users respectively:
- Basic Courses
These are required for all users as they cover important principles to increase digital literacy and awareness. Examples of such courses for the Hotel Industry include:- Hospitality Industry Analytics

- Introduction to Hotel Innovation Technology
- Customer Relationship Management Chatbot
- Advanced Courses

- Building an Internet of Things (IoT) Project
Additional Support
SMEs are also provided with additional help through basic advisory or specialist consultancy services through SME Centres and SME Digital Tech Hubs. Resources available include self-assessment checklists for digital readiness, consultation to provide digital advisory or project management information, and more.
