All Singapore Business Will Be Required to Have CorpPass from 1 September 2018
Beginning 1 September 2018, it will now be mandatory for all business in Singapore to transact online using a CorpPass Account. The Singapore government announced last year that CorpPass will be the only acceptable login method for businesses who wish to continue transacting with the government. All previous methods, including EASY and SingPass, will no longer be in use from 1 September 2018.
When you use the Secretarial Services of 3E Accounting, we will assist you with the setup of your CorpPass Account for free and act as your Corppass Administrator.
Singapore Corporate Access (CorpPass) is the new digital identity for business in Singapore to enhance privacy and protect the sensitive business information by segregating the login IDs which are used for personal and corporate transactions. CorpPass is the first initiative by the government to roll out a single corporate digital identity.
CorpPass will create even more opportunities for services and transactions to be provided online with convenience and security. Currently, more than 80 per cent of business in Singapore conduct regular transactions with the government. To better protect and manage the corporate data of this businesses, the government is encouraging all business who have not already registered for CorpPass to do so immediately.
The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) is committed to creating better efficiencies and a more secure digital ecosystem for business in Singapore as part of initiatives towards becoming a Smart Nation. Local businesses with a Unique Entity Number (UEN) and foreign business entities who do not possess a UEN are eligible for CorpPass.
Registering for Your CorpPass Account
You would first need to check your business entity’s eligibility before attempting to register for a CorpPass Account. Once you have done so, you may then identify your CorpPass role and proceed to the registration and setup process.
Step 1:
Local business entities who do not possess a UEN at this time are not eligible, but can obtain a UEN by registering with the appropriate agencies if they are interested. CorpPas is only available to foreign entities subjected to the provisions stipulated by ACRA.
Your Register Officer (RO) who holds your UEN or SingPass identity will then log into the CorpPass website and begin the process of setting up your account.
Step 2:
The RO will choose to be CorpPass Admin. The RO will be allowed to register a maximum of 2 CorpPass Admins.
Step 3:
Your CorpPass Admin will then proceed to create your CorpPass Account(s) for users within your company.
Step 4:
The CorpPass Admin will have the authority to restrict digital access for the various types of CorpPass accounts. This will restrict the ability to transact with a particular government agency. If your CorpPass Admin already transacts with IRAS and has granted access to all digital services, you may skip this step and proceed straight to Step 5.
Step 5:
Your CorpPass Admin will continue maintaining your CorpPass Accounts.
CorpPass Account for GST Registered Sole Proprietors, Group and Divisional Registrants
A GST CorpPass Admin account is only authorised to be used by staff or third parties who have access to IRAS and their GST e-Services. Do note that this is different from the CorpPass Admin account, and you would need to confirm if this has already been setup under your business’ UEN.
Entities who fall within the three categories (GST Registered Sole Proprietors, Group and Divisional Registrants) will need to have a separate GST CorpPass admin account under their GST registration number. To set up a GST CorpPass Account, an entity would be required to follow the steps below:
- Register your GST CorpPass Admin account by completing the form to appoint a new GST CorpPass Admin. The form must then be sent to IRAS attached as a PDF document and sent via myTax Mail. This must be done at least 5 working days in advance.
- Create your GST CorpPass User Account, however, this step will not be required if your GST CorpPass Admin is the same person who files your GST returns. If that is the case, you may proceed directly to Step 3.
- Assign your GST e-Services which will be listed on CorpPass from 15 August 2018.
What About Foreigners Who Don’t Possess a SingPass?
CorpPass will be available from mid-August 2018 to all foreigners who do not possess a SingPass identity. If you are a foreign business entity without a SingPass, you are required to setup a CorpPass 2FA account, which is a mobile application for those who do not hold a SingPass.
